Have you ever thought about what the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth must be like? Just looking up into the starry night sky, recognizing our ability to see with our eyes and perceive things with our minds is evidence that our Creator is powerful and amazing. But there’s so much more than that if we’ll take the time to consider Him. If you’re interested in exploring this further, click here.
God is all-powerful and all-knowing. He is holy, perfect, and just. He is above all and has authority over all things. Whenever people had an encounter with God as recorded in the Bible, they realized very quickly that He was different than themselves. He is the definition of “Holy”. There is no one like Him. He has no equal. He tells us that He alone is to be worshiped. The Bible has much to say about this. Here are just a few of the many places that speak about God’s Holy nature and how we should respond:
Isaiah 40:25-26 To whom then will you liken me, or shall I be equal? said the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who has created these things, that brings out their host by number: he calls them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one fails.
Exodus 15:11 Who is like You, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.
Revelation 15:4 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.”
Psalm 96:9-10 Sing to the LORD a new song! Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD! Bless his name! Proclaim his salvation from day to day! Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised! He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the LORD, you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come into his courts. Worship the LORD in holy array. Tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and its fullness! Let the field and all that is in it exult! Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy before the LORD; for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, the peoples with his truth.
God’s power and holiness are proclaimed in and throughout His Creation which offers us needed perspective about our own lives. After careful thought, the writer of Psalm 8 expressed it this way, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him?“
Beyond Creation, God gives us specific information through His written words – the Bible. In it’s pages we find an unsettling truth about ourselves… and why that should matter to us.
